I went back and tried again.
dwarfes worked this time (don't have the melee or missile weapon
skill),wraiths elves and half orcs gave the 'you don't have the body to use
this weapon' message.
Also no the races with no body trying to fight or break down a door gets
'you don't have the body to use a punching'.
