That's because GTK client uses GTK1 functions (obviously) which are deprecated in GTK2. So you need a GTK flag to tell GTK2 to actually use GTK1 things.

     From memory, the flag is 'GTK_ENABLE_BROKEN'. I can check tonight with the Win32 specific flags, which of course include all required flags as it builds against GTK2.
     
     
(or you can check yourself: check the 'win32.h' include, and the contents of 'gtkclient.dsp', which should contain defines)
