I was one talking to Yann Chachkoff (Gros/Lauwenmark) about that, and
when he was setting up the makefiles, he had some concerns about about
weird things happening if you load two shared objects that contain the
same instance of plugin_common linked in. I'm not really a linking
expert, so I decided to leave it as I wasn't sure what the correct/safe
way was to do it.
