  I don't think I ever responded to this.  But one of your points is that the 
look/inventory icons are too big.

  You can already control this - -iconscale command line option, or there is 
also a space for them in the config windows.  Set it to 50, and they are now 
half the size.

  Now it may be reasonable to make the default value something other than 100 
(maybe 50?)  Simply because when the tiles were increased from 24 to 32 pixels a 
while back, that obviously decreases density.
