Well, I'd like to note that actually, a Free Software Java 6 JRE does
exist today in the form of IcedTea6. It is available in Ubuntu (see
http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy/interpreters/openjdk-6-jre) and
Fedora. I've been using IcedTea6 myself for little while and have had
no issues including in usage with Gridarta (in fact, memory
consumption seems slightly lower for some reason but I'm not
completely certain). In addition at least the Fedora build does pass
Sun's Java Test Compatibility Kit. So in other words, we do actually
have Free Java 6 today.

As far as bringing another editor in, my stance is mostly neutral
however I don't think it would do much good.
