I don't want to go down the political rabbit hole (I think we've been
explicitly warned about that in the past :) ), but a few quick notes:
Positive or negative feedback is certainly welcome, since the bridge
has now been active for some time, and people may have different
opinions than the last time it was discussed in depth.
If someone wants to be in IRC, but not have their messages sent to
Discord (and thus not be subject to any type of Discord logging or
TOS), a technical solution could probably be devised. As long as a
regex can be built that will encompass all possible variants of an IRC
nick (in case you use multiple names when logging in from multiple
locations), I can configure matterbridge to skip ingestion of any
message from that nick. Other options are available, like skipping
messages whose content matches a regex, but I think that's less
relevant.
Someone brought up a possibility of bridging IRC to Matrix as well,
and I seem to recall reading about the Libera staff working on native
Matrix bridging within Libera. If someone would like to see presence
on another platform whether bridged to IRC or not, please make it
known. Some folks already work hard to keep at least a cursory
presence on platforms like Facebook, etc, and "where there's a will,
there's a way". :)
