Andreas Vogl has updated and repaired numerous issues with the pupland
maps.

I've put his updates and repairs into CVS, and also put them in the
active mapset on the public server:

crossfire.csua.berkeley.edu

Andreas has said he'd like feedback on his changes.  Furthermore, 
the creators of pupland have "passed the torch" to him.

Here is a summary of his changes:

Some of the maps contain only little changes, like different
NPC messages or exit paths. Major changes/new stuff can be found
on the following maps:
- pup_land/ancient/castle/*
- pup_land/ancient/volcano/*
- pup_land/castle_eureca/castle_eureca5 & 8
- pup_land/ancient/village/library
- pup_land/ancient/village/siegfried/siegfried.1 &.2
- pup_land/ancient/mountain/tower.1 & .3

If you want to play the maps, copy them all into the current
CF-map-tree (exact same directory structure). Everything should work
since I tested it over and over, if not please contact me.

About the changes...

I inserted some very tough fighting parts into the quests for wdsm
and magic cloak, they *should* be hard to get.
Once a player knows the theoretical part of the quest he still needs to
solve the fighting part (e.g. at another server).
The monsters are very dangerous, but still far from being impossible to
defeat. Just that you'll need much more strategy and maybe level 110
to do so. It is well possible to kill them alone (I extensively
tested that), but it would be much easier if several players attacked
together.

I toned down the wdsm by removing the cold immunity. I think it will
still be the most desireable artifact that exists.
In return, I increased the chance to actually get a wdsm at the
end of the quest. Chance was 1:24 - now it´s 1:8. It´d be unfair
to get too low chances after that kind of battles you need to
survive now.

What I didn´t like is the possibility of handing those
powerful artifacts to other players. Newbies with a wdsm? - Urrgh!
Hence, I set the flag "startequip 1" for the artifacts. That means you
can pick them up, wear them, even improve them (armour enchanting)
and enjoy your life. But if you ever drop them, they will vanish
instantly.

Finally, I tried to improved the language of the NPCs a little.
I didn´t change the storyline but I tried to make it more
logic and interesting. I have added some stories about the evil
masters for example.

Not to forget: I certainly removed all of the nasty bugs that crep
into the eureca quest due to changes in the CF-code.

I think I could write a book about all the changes and why I put
things the way I did. Just take a look for yourself... have fun!
