Note that when something is deleted from cvs, it isn't truly deleted, it just doesn't show up anymore. So for example, if all the xbm and xpm files are deleted, you could still do a cvs checkout -r rel-1-0-0 and get all the files, including xbm and xpm, as well as everything else that is in the 1.0.0 release. One issue here is that even with a branch, presumably the older images will not be included with the server (which does help reduce the distribution size quite a bit), which means the clients need to get the images themselves. And this then poses problems for new images for added archs/maps. Of course, if we go to iso, this probably becomes an even bigger issue, as effectively the viewing area is tilted 45 degrees, making it wider and taller than before, but with the same potential amount of graphic content.
