Here's an idea that, while requiring some significant development, could
suck out unlimited money:

Let players build their own castles of arbitrary design, paying per-square
as they build.

If this is done like the apartments, then you would start with a large map
of solid black squares.  Based on some mechanism, you could pay to convert
a black square into something usable.  You would eventually be able to add
stairways up or down to other similar maps.  Perhaps for some extradorniary
fee, you could even add entrances to random dungeons, shops (paying extra
for each item generating square), money changers, and such.

This would certainly give players a good way to spend unlimited
cash--there's always something more to add.

I guess this would mean integrating a map editor into the existing server,
and it would probably require updating the protocol and clients, as well.
So unless someone can think of a really clever way of doing it, it would be
a lot of work.

On the other hand, once you had that, you could use the same system in DM
mode to create new maps.
