I did not put my latest changes of CFJavaEditor > on cvs. I have decided to continue developing on that version that I > have coded from ground up. That's dissappointing. Why'd you open source it in the first place, if you don't want other to contribute to the code base? The currect release was difficult to package up for linux, so I made some structural changes that fall in line with Java's programming style guide lines. What really is irritating is that you do not seem to "get" open source development. In all the other project I code for there is always a clash of ego. Then lots of discussion, compromises, and finally a solution that acceptable to the developers and (usually) very good for the community. Forking of the code can be good and bad. If we had more developers, it would be good thing. The strongest/best features of each fork would, inventually be incorporated into each other and the -community- would win; 2 good pieces of software to choose from. But we have a small development community, so in effect the fork takes away developers from the community and creates hard feelings. In crossfire's case 1 project will stagnate. Bottom line AV, your fork hurts the -community-, IMHO. I've seen you do this 2 times now. If it's not your way, then you storm off and fork the code and start a new project, instead of trying to work with the community. My intention with the editor was to make it easier to build, package and deploy under linux. I never intended to take over the development or design of the project. Since I have written lots of Java code for Linux and deployed under Windows, I felt I had some skills to contribute to the community in making a more cross-platform build and deploy environment. I did not mean to piss you off. I'd like to work with you to integrate your changes into the main cvs repository and change whatever you want to keep the project together. -- Bob Tanner < tanner at real-time.com > | Phone : (952)943-8700 http://www.mn-linux.org, Minnesota, Linux | Fax : (952)943-8500 Key fingerprint = 6C E9 51 4F D5 3E 4C 66 62 A9 10 E5 35 85 39 D9
