It seems you do have autoconf, but a very old one (which uses "configure.in" instead of "configure.ac"). > Is this now a requirement? It is a requirement when you are compiling sources from CVS or if you made some modification to Makefiles or configure.ac file. It should not be requirement if you use released tarballs.
