 Almost certainly you have set it so your client is only showing equipped
items.  You don't say what client you are using, if the x11 client, you cycle
through what is shown in your inventory via the x command.  In the gtk client,
there are little tabs at the top of the inventory which determines what gets
shown.  These filters make it easy to find things like cursed items,
equipped/unequipped items, etc, in your inventory.
