You're probably right... Although I don't think having artifacts as a
newbie upsets the game balance too much, it does devalue the worth of
artifacts in general. Note that in my original post I never suggested
artifacts should be a substitute for _real_ experience. In retrospect
I think the most valuable thing I ever got from more experienced
players was the experience of tagging along with them on quests to see
how they handled certain situations, and what tricks they used that I
had never thought of. Without that the fact that I was given a
Belzebub's Sword as a newbie didn't make a whit of difference.
