I think the original question indicates the game should do a better job of having a ceremony making the character into a knight which includes a speech stating the major advantages. Now that the game has been released, there are more new people playing and their questions should be viewed as QA testers. On this topic, maybe the newbie dungeon needs an additional room to explain religions and praying. Maybe it should have a null temple which allows the character to learn how to pray but it isn't to an actual god so the player remains unattached to any religion.
