I agree. but I'm sort of willing to let it slide as a convenience factor.

But yeah, it then gets the problem that if the bow has benefits, the

It would certainly be easy enough to make bows 2 weapons (weapon hand +

     >

shield hand). But I have a feeling in this case, no one would really use

the item. However, this can be tweaked - you could make bows use the weapon

I actually agree with Todd here, currently IMHO bows are down right
useless, excepting a few very special cases (fireborn). If we could fix
the problem at the root prevent people equiping weapons when using bows,
we could start REALLY beefing up bows like they should be. Having
unequiped, equiped and readied flags means you could switch between a
weapon and a bow, while not actually gaining the special abilities of
either the shields/melee weapons or the bow at the same time. The real
problem right now is we can't just give bows +30 resist fire etc,
because it is just another bonus... and fighters will use it with out
any drawbacks. I have no problems with changing alot of the artifact
bows + adding a few at the cost of changing stuff.

EGO - give each item an ego value. Normal stuff (like plate mail,

shields, swords) would have 0 ego value. A players equipments ego total

could not exceed that total which is based on his level.

Woah this is actually a VERY neat idea. Basically adding a maximum total
of cool items at the one stage. This idea was sort of explored with the
current weapon enchancement codes level stuff. Basically unless you have
enough points, you can't wield your weapon. If this were instituted
firstly to the main nasty items, then in time to the lesser items it
would another IMHO cool feature that would fix alot of these problems,
even the florentine problem =).

I also agree with the point that Mark makes about the symantics of the
'flags'. I think actually describing the body adds alot more usefulness
in the long term.
