Heh, if there was magic for real I would actually expect that the material a magic ring is made of plays an important role. Well, still we can ignore this and achive the same results without material type, but the same is true for armour and weapons. We wouldn't have to care whether an armour is made of leather or mithril, but we do. We could invite some witches, wizards, alchemists, astrologists from the real world for advice. Silver might be a good choice for rings of ice as it must feel quite cool for it is the best conductor of heat - and electricity as well, so maybe for 'ring of storm', too. OTOH, a gold ring might make a (str-1, cha+2) ring. There could even be non metal rings and they may be combustible. I would, however, not like rings with equal properties to have different materials and so would not stack. I do have 2 rings of wisdom+2, adamant, fire, resist confusion +24, strength +2, acid, ice. > Doubly so if there exists the chance that someday we will come up with a > good use for the materials on rings, but not be able to implement it properly > because we buggered it making a decoration.
