  Perhaps, but there is no easy way to abstract.  One could make it so that all 
spells behave that way, but that probably isn't desired.  Since the 
retribution/mana backlash are just spells, there is no easy way to check them 
right now.

  I'm not sure if they have magic set or not.  If they do, then this could get 
fixed to some extend by just putting a counterwall/counterspell type object on 
the space.

  In the longer term, the fix is to extend the no_pass attributes, and include 
blocking flags that would step spell effects.  Then, the space could just be 
appropriately set.
